Derby Criminal Injuries Compensation Claim

The application must be received by the CICA within two years of the date of the incident. It is likely ,however, that sympathetic consideration will be given to late applications by victims who have some form of impaired ability or who were under the age of 18 at the time of the incident, provided that the application is received within a reasonable time of the victim attaining majority.

You need to inform the police or other relevant authorities promptly of the circumstances of the crime and to co-operate fully with the police to facilitate  bringing an offender to justice.

Bad conduct before, during and after the incident including provocative behaviour and offensive language can be taken into account in deciding whether an award should be reduced or withheld.

Convictions are seen to be relevant to the applicant’s character and can count against an award. The CICA adopts a system of penalty points outlined in its guide which will result in a percentage reduction from 0–100%. The CICA ignores convictions which are spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
